"Spark" the science of movement and brain function

Several years ago (1994) two doctors wrote a breakthrough book which introduced the world to attention deficit disorder. "Driven to Distraction", by John Ratey, M.D. and Ed Hallowell, M.D. told the world of the struggles of children and adults with proven brain dysfunction. This dysfunction causes distractibility in some to a life of constant struggle for others. So many people have self identified this condition that it has become the object of derision in many sectors. Some believe that the diagnosis is being used as an excuse for flakiness, immaturity, or just plain laziness. The benefits of treatment for millions of suffering people are undeniable.
This year Dr. Ratey published "Spark- The Revolutionary new Science of Exercise and the Brain", (2008 Little Brown & Co.). This wonderful book cites exciting research which is demonstrating how exercise can help us enhance brain function AT ANY AGE! Studies show high schoolers in Chicago who improved test scores with breakthrough physical education training. Other studies show attention impaired people enhancing focus and attention with simple exercises regimens spaced throughout the week.
I will be writing more about specifics of this research in the coming days. -Dr. Scott
